What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Jingu Art Museum for its high-quality collection of art donated to Ise Jingu Shrine and its serene, quiet atmosphere, especially on weekdays. The architecture and the garden are also noted as highlights, offering a peaceful cultural experience. Some visitors mention the lack of flowers in the garden during their visit, but overall, the museum is highly recommended for its unique artistic and spiritual offerings.
"The Jingu Art Museum displays works by Japan's leading artists and craftspeople that were donated in connection with the Ise Jingu Shrine's Shikinen Sengu (period rebuilding of the shrine). We recommend the museum for its quiet and relaxing atmosphere. The artworks on display change from time to time, and there's a garden behind the museum where you can enjoy seasonal flowers, though unfortunately there weren't any flowers on our visit. Please refer to the flower calendar (photo attached) when you visit.
The site is home to three museums: the Chokokan Museum, the Agricultural Museum, and the art museum. A discounted combined admission ticket is available, so why not combine your visit with a visit to Yamatohime-gu Shrine?
By car, follow the signs from the Yamatohime-mae traffic light on Miyuki Road, and there's a large parking lot at the back of the museum."

"This was my first visit to the Jingu Museum, and it was great. The artworks dedicated to commemorate the Shikinen Sengu (yearly rebuilding of the shrine) have a special feel to them. The museum is packed with high-quality works by Japan's leading artists that you don't normally get to see, and it's well worth a visit. I highly recommend spending a luxurious time immersed in the beauty of traditional Japanese culture in a solemn atmosphere!"

"I visited on a weekday in the early afternoon of June 2025. It was quiet and I had the museum almost to myself.
The official name of the Jingu Art Museum is the "Shikinen Sengu Memorial Jingu Art Museum" and it was established in 1993 to commemorate the 61st Shikinen Sengu. It apparently stores and exhibits paintings, calligraphy, and crafts that were donated to Ise Jingu by artists and writers at that time. The building was designed by architect Hiroshi Oe, who also designed the National Noh Theater and the Kaguraden Hall of the Inner Shrine of Ise Jingu."
