Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces for their historical significance, representing a key moment in Japan's industrialization. The site is appreciated for its affordability and the peaceful, quaint surroundings, including nearby tea plantations. However, some find the information displays lacking in English and the overall 'wow' factor less pronounced than expected for a World Heritage site.

"Great history of Japan and craftsmanship. It is a small historical museum where they made cannons and insightful how it was made. The time it took to make the cannon and also to bore hole in the cannon made it time consuming. Good historical site."

Min Park

"Well, for a recognized and designated world heritage structure, it didn't really exude any of the "wow" factor. And to be honest it was a lot smaller than I expected, details and information around the furnace were quite lacking for visitors

The tourist center did put up some decent exhibits (all in Japanese though) and information in regards to the history of the industrial revolution in Japan and how the furnace was a symbol of Japan's initial attempts at kick-starting the steel/metal industry.

The surrounding area is surprisingly nice. With a tea plantation terrace nearby, and nestled in a quiet, quaint neighborhood."

"Nice place to spend a short time. We didn't actually go in but I wanted to see the towers."
