"This is one of the best tours I’ve ever done, and I’ve done a lot of factory tours. You do have to call in advance to make a reservation instead of booking online — easy enough to have your hotel concierge do it though. A very easy day trip from Tokyo (took the Shin to Kakegawa then a 20-minute taxi). They provide fantastic, easy instructions and suggestions in the confirmation email. They run tours twice a day (10am and there’s one in the afternoon too). Our tour group was only 7 people, so it was an intimate experience. They show you a video with English subtitles that explains the production process prior to arriving at the factory (i.e. how and where the source the wood, how pianos are generally crafted, the materials used and parts designed, etc). Then they take literally through the assembly line for a good 45 mins or so. They provide you with an earpiece so you can hear your tour guide. If you are English-speaking, they will place you with an English-speaking guide. She was amazing — thoughtful, friendly, patient, descriptive, knowledgeable, spoke great English. I don’t recall her name but the tour took place on 4/8/24 at 10am. Thank you so much to her! It was incredible to see the entire production line and process! They only conduct tours on weekdays so you’ll see hundreds of active workers up close and personal in their stations. Note that they do not allow you to take photos of videos while on the assembly line (for IP purposes). Afterwards, they tell you a bit about the history of Yamaha and give you a fun unique souvenir. Shoutout to Yurina who not only helped make my reservation over the phone, but sent immediate confirmation email, and then was responsive and flexible enough to shift my initial reservation to another date when i requested. She even greeted me and introduced herself when I arrived on-site — total class act! They even helped call us a taxi back to the train station (~¥2,400; 20 minute ride). I can’t thank Yamaha enough — I have a whole new appreciation for their brand and for pianos!"

"What an amazing tour organised by our Japanese friend. And wow what a great tour of the manufacturing of Yamaha pianos and musical instruments.
Our guide was fantastic and very friendly and made the tour so enjoyable.
I learnt so much, I highly recommend it.
You can play heaps of piano 🎹 and electronic drums and guitars."

"Yamaha piano factory 🏭 tour in Sakuragi was amazing! They make 25 to 30 grand pianos a week there, about 6000 per annum. The factory is out side of any obvious city and apparently in the middle of nowhere, I'm thinking Newcastle West, Co. Clare. But the factory and show room / museum are state of the art. They also make high end guitars 🎸 on the same site but don't offer a tour of that factory.

The factory is cleaner and tidier than most of our homes 🏡. We cannot show you because we were asked not to take photos or video 😒 but our guide was absolutely charming and extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the production process, as well as being a decent player for demonstration of different instruments. We went around with a Dutch family, who seemed very nice. Conclusion, highly recommend. A must anyone interested in high quality craft production in general and of musical instruments in particular."
