What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about KawaZoo's extensive and diverse collection of frogs, housed in beautifully maintained, naturalistic enclosures. The 'waterfall room' and 'tadpole lab' are highlighted as unique and engaging exhibits. While some wish for English signage, the visual experience and the sheer number of fascinating amphibians make it a highly recommended destination for amphibian lovers.
"If you’re in the area and like frogs, you have to visit the KawaZoo. This small zoo specializes in amphibians, mostly frogs with some axolotl and salamanders/newts. The ticket is 1000円 but you can also get a combo ticket with the nearby lizard zoo iZoo, or a 100円 discount with one of the local bus passes. There are many exotic species of frogs from all over the world. Some are in small, bare enclosures, but most have a lot of space and vegetation and seem to be happy. There is also an outdoor section with local species, a waterfall room where they roam free, and a “lab” area where you can see many tadpoles and froglets developing. The gift shop is full of enticing frog-themed items. I’d say it takes about 1h to visit at the fastest, but if you really like frogs then count on at least 2h."

"The ticket for this frog zoo is included with the ticket for I-zoo reptile zoo. My husband and I have raised dart frogs in the past, so we were very interested. The frogs are in well-kept, clean enclosures and they're clearly very well fed. The only disappointment was the frog room, which is fitted out as a frog utopia with plants and running water and mist. We couldn't find a single frog in there. Maybe it's TOO comfy and the frogs are living their best life and laughing at the humans trying to find them."

"Really great amphibian zoo! It's a little off the main road but definitely worth going to if you like frogs. All of the information about them is in Japanese, I wish they included English common names on the signs as well. All of the terrariums are extremely well kept and clean, plenty of space for the frogs. Some of them are huge! I had a hard time finding some of them because of how well-hidden they were, but it was lots of fun trying. It took about an hour to get through. In the summer they have some outdoor exhibits as well but I went in the winter so those frogs were not on display."
