Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Yamanashi Prefectural Museum of Archaeology for its extensive and well-preserved collection, particularly the Jomon pottery and Kofun period artifacts. The staff's helpfulness, even with limited Japanese, is frequently mentioned, making it a rewarding experience for history and archaeology enthusiasts. Reddit

"Absolutely amazing!! A must visit location for Yamanashi if you are interested in history or archaeology. I had an amazing visit.

The museum takes you through all periods of time in the local area, starting from prehistoric. An extensive collection of Jōmon pottery, which was fascinating to see. A lot of the items are in such good condition too it was impressive. There was also a large section on the Kōfun period, which was by far my favourite as it is so different to anything I could think of in Western culture.

There a discount days for students (approximately once a month), and also discounts for tourists who are visiting Yamanashi.

Staff were kind and helpful, even though I only speak very limited Japanese. I even got the opportunity to ask a museum curator questions about one of the exhibits for my university essay.

Many thanks for your hospitality and for a great day out! 😊"
