What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Koganei Park Barbecue Field for its spaciousness, convenience, and family-friendly amenities. The ability to rent equipment and the adjacent play areas are highlights. Some find the spot assignments on busy days less ideal than choosing their own, and the restriction on knives requires pre-planning.
"It was my first time renting a barbecue and it was great! It is easy to reserve equipment online on the website. Then you show up at the office (reception from 9:30AM, BBQ allowed from 10:00AM), pay, choose one of the numbered spots, and set up. (Edit: I've since come here again and on popular days like holidays they pre-assign the spots, you can't choose unfortunately).
At the end of the day (stop grilling at 4PM, return equipment by 4:30PM) you bring back the equipment, you don't need to clean anything. Unlike some other barbecue rental places, you are allowed to bring your own equipment too. But if you want to rinse your own items, there are large outdoor sinks.
You can rent tables, chairs, the grill, charcoal, barbecue utensils, and so on. We had reserved a tent but thanks to the trees and clouds we did not need to rent it in the end (you can decide this when you arrive). The 2kg bag of charcoal lasted about 3 hours for us. You can also order food on the website. We brought our own food to cook. Please note, knives are not allowed in the park so you must cut your ingredients in advance. The shop gives you garbage bags (burnables and plastic) which you can give them at the end of the day for 100円 per bag, but we used our own bags and brought the trash home. I recommend bringing a tarp so you can put your bags on the ground.
The BBQ zone is right next to a field where you can play games like frisbee. The BBQ shop sells frisbees and other toys for kids. There is also a fenced dog park. To avoid disturbing others, speakers are not permitted."

Planning Your BBQ Feast
Beyond the essentials, consider renting tables and chairs for added comfort, especially if you have a larger group. While many spots offer natural shade from the trees, you can also rent a tent if you anticipate needing extra protection from the sun or a light drizzle. The ability to order food online in advance is a great option for those who prefer a more hands-off approach, but bringing your own food allows for greater customization and potentially cost savings.
Finally, think about waste management. While the park provides garbage bags for a small fee, bringing your own reusable bags and taking your trash home is an environmentally friendly option. A tarp can be useful for keeping your bags off the ground and organized.

The barbecue area itself is designed to accommodate numerous groups, with each section offering ample space. You can comfortably fit multiple grills, chairs, and tables without feeling cramped. Adjacent to the BBQ zones are open fields perfect for recreational activities like frisbee, and the park also features a dedicated, fenced dog park, making it a versatile destination for various interests.
For convenience, there are washing sinks available for rinsing your own equipment, and the park provides trash disposal services. While speakers are not permitted to maintain a peaceful atmosphere, the overall vibe is one of relaxed enjoyment and community gathering. The staff at the rental office are generally described as polite and helpful, contributing to a positive visitor experience.
