What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Shinshigai Arcade is a lively covered street offering a good mix of dining and shopping, particularly known for its grilled food and unique pastries. While it can get a bit oily in the evenings due to restaurants, its convenience, tax-free shopping options, and connection to other shopping areas make it a worthwhile visit. Most shops close around 8 PM, so plan accordingly.
"Visited end Jun 2025. Mostly restaurants with grilled food. Couple of medical and cosmetic duty free shop. Two Macdonalds along the arcade. Two Starbucks and convenience stores. Not many Clothing shops. One electronic shop that displays mostly phone and accessories related. One animate shop which really offered quite a lot of animate stuffs. One big bookstore and a 100 jpy store on same building as the bookstore. Depending what you are looking for, it may take hours or minutes. I love the pastry from a store. The outer layer is so thin and crispy. My favorite snack. I didn’t like to walk on this arcade in the evening bcos I can smell oil in the arcade. Guess too many restaurants with grilled and fried stuffs and ventilation wasn’t that good. It gets better towards the other sections where fewer restaurants are available. By the way, most shops close at about 8 pm."

"The western end of this relatively short covered shopping street is near the Karashimacho tram stop. At the eastern end, which is about three blocks away; there is a Best Denki electronics store on the right and the Shimotori Shopping Arcade on the left."
