What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate the serene, timeless atmosphere of Kusenbu Observatory, a charmingly vintage facility offering free stargazing away from city lights. Its unique character and affordable on-site accommodation make it a hidden gem, though its limited opening hours and weather dependency require careful planning.
"This old observatory is located on the outskirts of a regional city. It's on the third floor of the Kurume City Jojima Community Center, a local community facility a little way from the city center. It's located along the Chikugo River, so it's less affected by city light. There's ample parking.
There's something charming about the fact that this old observatory is located just outside of town. Indeed, the facilities are old, the equipment is dilapidated, and the staff seem to be fairly advanced in years. The overall atmosphere is indescribably serene. It offers a sense of time that's hard to find with state-of-the-art facilities.
It's only open from 7:00 PM on the first to third Saturdays of each month (hours may change depending on the season). It's especially popular with families during the summer holidays. Unfortunately, stargazing is canceled on rainy days. We recommend calling ahead to confirm."

"The observatory is open to the public free of charge on the first and second and third Saturdays of every month. Depending on the weather, I think it's best to call to confirm before going."

"It's a training facility.
Accommodation (and food) costs are super cheap❗
Fukuoka Prefecture will be introducing a lodging tax in April
so it will be a little more expensive💦
But still, it's great value for money😃⤴⤴☝
I get a lot of inquiries🎵"
