"Lake Akan is definitely worth a visit, in winter the lake freezes and there is tons of activity on the frozen lake like winter fishing, snowmobile rental.
And summer it’s beautiful long hiking trains, river cruise. There is also a rental bike place at the pier."

"Very quiet when I visited in early July. A few exhibits of the local fish and Marimo. Numerous stuffed animals, like birds and the biggest being a bear. There's a cafe, souvenir shop, and information counter inside. The bokke (mud volcano) is just a short walk outside. And there's a tap with fresh spring water out at the entrance."
