What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Biwako Canal Cruise for its scenic beauty, especially during sakura and autumn. It's considered a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path experience rich in history. Some note the Japanese-only commentary and limited restroom facilities as minor drawbacks.
"Loved it! A boat ride down an extremely beautiful canal. I'm sure it we made better by understanding the Japanese only guide. Maybe there is an app you can use for real time translation. Apparently it's best at sakura season or autumn leaf color changing season but you'd need to book weeks or more in advance for those days. I was there April 24th. I'd recommend riding from here, the Kyoto side, to the Otsu side. When you get off, walk back a little to the temple above (三井寺/Miidera) for the view of lake Biwa"

"Nice afternoon walk off the beaten path, rich in history about the water canals used to bring water from lake Biwa to the city of Kyoto. You can still see cars, rails and boats used in the past, along with the old pulling system. If you plan head of time you can do the water canal tour. Best in peak fall and spring."
Ignacio
"Lake Biwa canal is constructed in 1890 and have been used as water facility until now.
Cruising on the canal is great to watch nice scenery and old structures. (It’s needed to reserve on the web.)"
