Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Kyoto Railway Museum as an engaging and educational experience for all ages. The extensive collection of trains, interactive exhibits, and the unique opportunity to ride a steam locomotive are major highlights. While it can get crowded, especially with families, the affordable entry and kind staff make it a highly recommended destination for anyone interested in railways or looking for a fun, hands-on activity in Kyoto.

"One of the best museums in Japan.
Expect a lot of children. The whole museum is playful, you learn a lot from the different eras of Japan Railway system.

The main floor is large and displays many trains from the 1890s to nowadays.

I would suggest to go to the second floor to see the train demonstration. It lasts around 15 minutes.

Don’t forget to collect the stamps, disseminated around the two floors."
