What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Lake Towada for its stunning natural beauty, particularly the vastness of the lake and the picturesque Oirase Gorge. The autumn foliage is a major draw, offering breathtaking scenery. However, some reviewers noted that the area can feel quiet or even 'half abandoned' outside of peak season, with many restaurants and hotels closed, especially in early summer.
"Really worth the trip. We’re glad we had a rental car to make quick pit stops along the meanders and parking points. Really a life saver and worth the trip.
Just ensure you start with a full tank of petrol.
Have enough water in hand.
Some insect repellent might help if you choose to use it.
And a good camera !"

"Beautiful lake and surroundings, a few hikes. Very natural and great.
The one thing we didn't like is that it looked half abandoned and it was very inactive, all restaurants were closed and a lot of hotels/visitor centres were closed. That was in early July, we learnt afterwards that the high season there is autumn, but we would have liked to have more options for dinner close by."
