Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Matsue Samurai Residence to be an interesting and affordable cultural experience, offering a glimpse into samurai life. The preserved home and tranquil garden are highlights, though some note the abundance of 'do not enter' signs. It's highly recommended as a worthwhile stop, especially when combined with Matsue Castle.

"If you're visiting Matsue Castle, dont forget to explore the park and area surrounding it! You can exit the castle through the north, walk past a few shrines and then make your way around to this quaint samurai residence.

The entrance fee is 400 yen, and it's a fun little spot to experience the lifestyle and home back in samurai days.

You are allowed to walk around inside the house. Just remember to take your shoes off. If you dont want to leave them at the entrance, they have plastic bags available so you can carry them around. They have added some items and mannequins to some areas, to give you a better idea of what life would have been like. The only thing that was bothersome to me is that there are hundreds of signs for "do not enter" or "do not touch". I get it, you dont want annoying tourists to touch things. But then put them in a glass case or a separate museum area. All the signs ruin the otherwise authentic atmosphere."

"A former samurai house with a nice garden.

See the living arrangements of the Samurai and his household. Friendly staff, very nicely kept place with helpful signs explaining each room and its uses.

Not a large place and requires removal of your shoes when entering the house itself.

An interesting cultural history experience."
