Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Kappo-do for its exceptional handcrafted Japanese knives and the outstanding customer service provided by knowledgeable and patient staff. The sushi and sashimi-making classes are highlighted as a memorable, valuable, and delicious experience. Some minor dislikes might include the shop being a 'hidden gem' and potentially requiring a bit of navigation to find.
"Our kaisendon-making class at Kappodo Japanese Knife Shop was the highlight of our time in Tokyo! We went here to look at buying a good sushi knife and learned that they had sashimi and sushi-making classes that were half the price of what was offered on AirBNB. They actually went out of their way to set up a private class for us because we were very limited on time and couldn't make the regularly scheduled classes. Master chef Naoya and interpreter Kaego were so friendly, knowledgeable and welcoming, they made it a truly special experience. We were very proud of our final masterpiece and enjoyed eating it even more. Generous amounts of different sashimi were provided, along with delicious sake. They even gave us each a bottle when we left! This activity way exceeded our expectations and was an incredible value for the money. We highly recommend adding this to your itinerary while in Tokyo!"

"A must visit if ever in Japan. Custom engraving and customer service was on another level. Saya was incredibly knowledgeable and patient to explain to me the difference in knives they had for purchase. The knife we purchased and her amazing personality have made a lasting impression on me and my family.
Thank you for creating an amazing knife that will be cherished and talked about for many years."

"We went there to buy a Japanese knife. The owner was very patient and explained everything. We ended up coming back the next day for a sushi class they offered. He was very detailed and the whole group ended up making delicious sushi on their own. You could feel that he is very proud and a great chef. Their sake was also very delicious. Definitely a highlight of our trip, and the owner is a kind and generous person.
We'd recommend this experience and shop to everyone."
