What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Miyako Island Underwater Park to be a surprisingly delightful experience, especially for families and those seeking an alternative to snorkeling. The unique underwater viewing perspective and the chance to see diverse marine life, including sea turtles and even sea snakes, are frequently praised. While it's a cash-only venue, the immersive 'spaceship' feel and the educational aspect make it a worthwhile visit, particularly on less-than-ideal weather days.
"It was a cloudy day in Miyakojima, so we decided to visit the Miyako Island Underwater Park. We hadn’t seen much advertising for it, but we found it on the map and decided to go. Just a heads-up—it’s cash only, so make sure to bring some with you. The park’s design was really interesting, and we saw many fish right at the entrance and even more in the underwater viewing areas. It felt like being inside a spaceship! We even spotted Nemo (a clownfish), which was a fun surprise. I definitely recommend visiting this park, especially if you have kids—they’ll absolutely love it!

"I was a little skeptical before going there but now I fully recommend it. Although I love snorkeling and watching the sea creatures while doing so, the underwater park is a great way for children or elderly or people who are simply not as fond of snorkeling themselves to see different fish and other animals of the ocean. As it is no aquarium, noone can tell you beforehand, what you will see. Our highlight was a seasnake. There was also a kind employee explaining different things. Unfortunately only in Japanese but when we asked him something in English, he was using a translation app so that he could answer our questions. As we got there only 45 minutes before closure we did not have time to look around everywhere but it seemed as if you could spend another hour there."

"I saw a big seasnake, countless fishes, green, blue, yellow, all colorful. They swim freely and you look from under water. There is always plenty."
