Avoid feeding them, as this can disrupt their natural behavior and health. Respect their space and observe from a distance.

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Aoshima Island's unique charm, primarily due to its large cat population and picturesque coastal scenery. The 'Devil's Washboard' rock formations and the serene Aoshima Shrine add to its appeal. However, the lack of amenities and infrequent ferry services require careful planning.

"Was so great walking around the island looking around for shells and rocks. I think the cats come out around dusk so if you’re here for them, come in the afternoon. We spotted one on our way home."

Tash Noveski

"A very pleasant little island (accessed via a small footbridge). There's a path around the island (islet?) taking one past a small temple and past striated rock formations in the water. As with many of the coastal attractions in this area, there are very few tourists (a pleasant change from places like Enoshima and Kamakura). It's a gentle walk, not taxing at all, and suitable for all ages. The sandy shoreline makes the walk unsuitable for wheelchairs though."

Jeremy Fox

"Such a beautiful place!! Loved it here. There are several places to see in the area. There's Aoshima Jinja, the Devil's Washboard, Aoshima Beach Park & Miyako Botanical Garden. Defintely a must see place when in Miyazaki."

Aibi Y.
