Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the incredible summit views and the dramatic volcanic landscape of Mount Komagatake. The hike is challenging but rewarding, with many appreciating the raw natural beauty. However, the steep, loose terrain and lack of facilities require thorough preparation.
"September 2024. Japanese easy but U.S. standard moderate.
I took a taxi 3600¥ from the J.R. line to parking lot of the mountain. I called back the cab. [I was limit time]
It's a straight-up incline with loose rocks. It doesn't flatten until the first summit. [1 hour and 15mins]
Then, the second summit was loose rocks with soft sand and steep incline. Coming down was harder than climbing up. [45 minutes round trip]
The third summit is a rock climb [you may be able to walk on the back side to get up, but I was able to get half way].
There are no toliets or vending machines. Bring water and food.
The views were incredible!"

"Beautiful view. Be aware in summer; no shade so bring lots of water. On the top it's cooler with a beautiful view. Way down can be a bit tricky due to many loose rocks. Beginner+ level, summer; intermediate level."

"Not an easy climb. On a weekday morning, I only managed to see 1 climber.
Hiking poles highly recommended.
Encountered a small fox about 1 meter length.
Took about 1.5hr to climb and 0.75hr to descend."
