What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests rave about the Akakura Kanko Hotel's stunning natural beauty, exceptional hospitality, and historical charm. The open-air onsen, gourmet dining, and attention to detail are frequently praised. While the price point is higher and reservations require significant advance planning, most visitors find the experience well worth the investment for a truly memorable and relaxing stay.
"This review is for the main dining room, lunch dining and bakery. I look forward to staying here, but it is hard to get a reservation without at least a year planning in advance! The food here is superb, in each of the locations you can get it inside the hotel. Only guests can dine at the main restaurant at night, but their lunches, while expensive, are masterpieces of cooking well worth the price. The cafe-outdoor eatery, again rather pricey, but the food is always delicious. In either location, you have amazing views of the surrounding valleys, mountains, and even Lake Nojiri on clear days. The breads (love the raisin bread here!) and the pastries from the bakery are fresh, flavorful, and you can get them to go. Fair warning, this is a popular destination for people that are not staying at the hotel, so the eateries can get very crowded."

"I greatly enjoyed my stay here. It's pricier than where I would typically stay, but the experience was worth it.
The restaurants were amazing. My daughter is vegan, and the chef prepared a 5 course meal just for her.
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Many don't speak English, but there were a few who did, and it worked out
We were there in September, and it's a quiet location, so plan to spend time relaxing in the hotel or hiking on Mt Myoko. It's a much different experience than busy tokyo shopping. But it was a great place to spend a couple of nights relaxing in the middle of our trip."

"I have been using this hotel over 5 years. They have the best hostilities even among Japan.
This hotel has almost 100 years of history. But the room don’t feel old because this hotel has been taken good care of.
Every time we check in or check out, there will be someone at the entrance to welcome us or waving goodbye to us. I feel like home.
There is welcome drink service until 5pm which service’s alcohol and light snacks with a nice view. We also had fire place during the stay. It was very nice.
My kids found there is a family onsen, which we can get an onsen for ourselves!
I highly recommend their restaurants. They have western cuisine, French cuisine and Japanese cuisine. I haven’t try their Japanese food yet but their western cuisine is very detailed. They also have the correct desert fork.
We have a lot of requests based on our own needs. And this hotel always has some solutions for us!
We will come back again."
