First morning in Chiba, we went around Katsuura. Came to check out the Katsuura Morning Market, which sadly had only a few stalls open (maybe it’s the weather, maybe cos it’s a weekday?), but we still enjoyed the stroll through this tranquility and had a good cup of au lait from Spaice Coffee. Ended the morning walk with a visit to Tomisaki Shrine. During the doll festival, these steps would be fi...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Katsuura Morning Market for its incredibly fresh tuna and authentic local atmosphere, highlighting the friendly vendors and the historical significance of the market. However, some reviewers caution that certain restaurants within the market can be overpriced, suggesting exploring nearby eateries for better value.

"Tried two different restaurants inside of this place and unfortunately they are both a tourist trap. The place being a fish yard DOES NOT provide fresh seafood and the prices are really high.
Just about a 3min walk there are other restaurants that are much cheaper and provide excellent meals."

Seiko Isenhart (CaliVibes Japan)

"What an experience and so civilised as auction starts at 7am, not an ungodly hour.
It is very low key and laid back. Tunas are arranged according to size a d shoppers go around using their pick to lift the fish to ascertain the weight whilst with the bigger sizes, they check the cut off tail for freshness and quality.
Next Door is a small arcade that opens at 10am with a souvenir shop and best of all a few tiny restaurants selling fresh tuna prepared in different ways which you could eat there or takeaway. We bought sushi with various cuts of tuna to eat on the train to Osaka, laced with shiso leaved. It was truly delicious."

Mighty Brown Mouse

"There is one restaurant with two vegan options. They serve a vegan curry and a set of different plates (miso soup, rice with vegetables and tofu). The food was really tasty."
