What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the museum's free exhibits informative and the planetarium show a good alternative to the actual Nagaoka Fireworks Festival, especially for those who can't get tickets. The food court is convenient, but navigating local buses can be challenging for foreigners.
"We visited on a sunday at around 13.30. There's a big parking area next to the museum. There wasn't a big crowd inside the museum. They have dedicated time slots for the firework theater show. The tickets will start selling out closer to show times. So it's better if you can get your tickets earlier. Rest of the museum is free to the public."

"The museum makes me know better about the fireworks festival that I want to see that night on Nagaoka Fireworks Festival. I watch the show (documentary) in the planetarium was amazing. The ticket price is ¥600 per person. If you are hungry, there’s a food court with many seats and various stalls.
The only thing that really matters in Nagaoka is public transportation to strolling around the city. As foreigner, I can’t read the bus route in front of the bus, so it’s really hard to fond the right bus the I want to ride on. But if we ask to the driver, he will describe to us clearly. Different with Tokyo or another city with numbering route system bus, I wish Nagaoka will do the same thing so the foreigners will feel easy to find a bus."

"This musuem is hidden in a rest stop, and feels off the beaten path. The rest stop is pretty standard, with a big parking lot, a couple of souvenir stores, and bathrooms. There's a free area, and a planetarium show that costs money. The free area has some fun activities for kids, and there's some signage in English (but not everything). It's worth a visit if you're passing through Nagaoka."
