My mother and brother are coming to Japan for 2 weeks and we will be concluding their trip in Okinawa, arriving on Saturday afternoon 8/26 and leaving Tuesday morning 8/29 . We will be staying in Naha not far from the airport and will not be renting a car. Hopefully Sunday 8/27…

Visitors praise the Naha City Museum of History for its polished exhibits on local culture and history, particularly the nostalgic dioramas and ancient genealogy records. However, many note the significant lack of English translations in permanent displays, which can hinder international visitors' understanding. Despite its compact size, it's considered a worthwhile stop for a focused glimpse into Naha's past. Reddit

"7/2025
Finally, after three years of living in Naha! Monday national holiday, morning. Not too crowded.
Got to see the genealogy record things on display temporarily, the oldest one being from the late 1700s. Amazing that it was preserved. “Important cultural properties.”

The nostalgic diorama of the Main Street (pre-war) was small, yet nicely made.
There was only a bit of English translation, and no other languages as far as I remember, so I was surprised to see international visitors there.

Received some lovely monochrome postcards for turning in a simple questionnaire 😊
They’ll be closed from September."

"It's difficult to find as it's about two exhibition rooms in one corner of the department store, and you have to pay an admission fee even though there's nothing worth seeing."

"This museum is quite small, with only two exhibition rooms. The temporary exhibits feature English text and English QR codes. The permanent exhibits are visually interesting on its own."
