What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Nakano ZERO Planetarium's incredible affordability and its charming, old-fashioned atmosphere. The live celestial commentary is a standout feature, making the experience both educational and engaging. While the seating shows its age, the overall value and unique charm make it a highly recommended spot for a relaxing and insightful visit.
"This is said to be the oldest planetarium in Tokyo. The 38-year-old planetarium projects the starry sky, but without the flashy modern-day décor, the beauty and stories of the starry sky are conveyed here, making it feel like it's never been more than a century old.
(Note: The chairs and other amenities do show their age, though; they have no cushioning.)
This unique feature, the real-time celestial commentary, including current events, makes you want to take a quick look at the night sky on your way home, allowing you to reflect on the heavens, even if just for a moment.
I don't think you'll find an experience of this caliber for just 200 yen in Tokyo these days. I hope families with children, students, and adults alike will remember this wonderful, affordable place, where you can have fun, relax, and deepen your knowledge and culture."

"It's about an 8-minute walk from Nakano. It's a planetarium. Adult tickets cost 230 yen and can be purchased 30 minutes in advance. Line up at the stairs. In the summer, it's perfect for a nap 💤, enjoying the air conditioning and gazing at the night sky.
I love it, as the price and atmosphere are similar to the planetarium at the Kanagawa Youth Center I used to go to. Back then, it was 50 or 100 yen. Planetarium prices have skyrocketed recently, so public facilities are a blessing.
At the Kanagawa Youth Center, they explained Greek mythology using picture-book-like illustrations. I used to fall asleep soundly listening to them. I miss them, but they're gone now. The person explaining sounded like Leo Morimoto, and I fell asleep soundly.
I wish Nakano had more time for sunsets 🌇.
And finally, the sun rose in the eastern sky. "Good morning ☀😃." I wish they'd say something like that. That was the perfect line to say while taking a nap."

"This is my second visit. The admission fee is a bargain 200 yen. It's a warm, old-fashioned planetarium. There are programs for adults and children. I recommend the seats on the north side near the entrance. It's a good idea to use the restroom 5 minutes before the screening.
Due to the structure of the elevator, the earlier you get in, the later you get in, so the management should be mindful of this (after the person who got in late got off the elevator, they were told by the attendant and bought their tickets earlier than us, so they looked apologetic).
Also, there is a space on the west side where the air conditioning is strong and it's cold, so if you are sensitive to heat, it's a good idea to ask the attendant where you would like to be if you have a preference."
