Reviews Summary

Visitors praise Mount Komochi for its unique volcanic rock formations, particularly the dramatic Shishiiwa and Byobu Rocks, and the enjoyable, moderately challenging hiking trails. The panoramic views from the summit are a significant draw, and the Komochi Shrine route is recommended for a well-rounded experience. Some hikers note that the summit views can be obstructed by insects and that certain sections require careful footing due to steepness and potential slipperiness.

"Although the mountain is only climbed during the cold season, the course, itinerary, and difficulty level are just right. The entire mountain is made up of rock, and remnants of volcanic activity can be seen everywhere. The Byobu Rock is located just a short distance from the hiking trail and is a spectacular sight.
Just below Shishiiwa Rock, there are ladders and chains for climbing, allowing you to enjoy climbing.
On the way back, there is also a course that descends the ridge, with the majesty of Shishiiwa Rock at your back, which is very enjoyable."

"The hiking trail was well-maintained and easy to follow. There are some dangerous areas, so be careful!

I climbed in early June, and there were no leeches. It was the day after rain, so it was a bit slippery in places.

The view from the top of Mt. Komochi wasn't great. There were a lot of insects. However, I personally found it more enjoyable than climbing Mt. Haruna or Mt. Akagi.

The rocks along the way offered a spectacular view and were a great place to rest. It was really great! There's a risk of falling, so if you're scared or worried, it's best not to go.

I went early on a weekday morning, so there weren't many other hikers. After lunch, I passed a few groups!

I sensed the presence of wild animals, but didn't encounter any. There were deer footprints and other signs.

You probably don't need much stamina, but there are some slippery areas and steep slopes, so be sure to be well prepared.

It was so much fun, I'd like to climb again using a different trail!"

"This ancient volcano straddles the cities of Numata and Shibukawa in Gunma Prefecture, and its majestic shape is a testament to the huge rock peak known as Shishiiwa, which juts skyward. Standing on top of this rock, you can see Gunma's famous mountains, Mount Akagi, Mount Haruna, and Mount Asama. There is a parking lot at the trailhead, and a circular course of about three hours is available, offering spectacular views and thrilling adventures."
