What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Itoya Grand Front Osaka is a well-regarded stationery retailer, praised for its helpful staff and neat presentation, with a surprising collection of children's books. However, some visitors find the store's selection limited compared to larger Itoya branches, particularly for fountain pens, and note that staff expertise can vary.
"Itoya Grand Front Osaka is located on the sixth floor of the Grand Front Osaka complex, which means reaching the store takes some time and requires a bit of effort, especially given the size of the building.
Itoya was founded in 1904 and is widely known as one of Japan’s most prestigious stationery retailers, with a long history and a strong reputation for quality. For this reason, my expectations were quite high. Unfortunately, the Osaka branch felt rather limited in size, and the overall selection reflected this. The store’s assortment does not compare to larger Itoya locations spread across multiple floors, which offer a truly extensive range of pens, notebooks, paper products, and writing accessories.
Here, the choice of fountain pens and other writing instruments was noticeably restricted, and in some cases it was not possible to properly test how the pens write, particularly fountain pens. I eventually purchased a pen, but the buying experience was somewhat underwhelming due to the limited selection.
In addition, the staff did not seem as thoroughly trained or as specialized as at the Itoya store in Yokohama, especially when it came to detailed product guidance.
Overall, while Itoya Grand Front Osaka may still be worth a brief visit for stationery enthusiasts already in the area, it may feel disappointing for visitors familiar with larger, flagship Itoya stores offering a much broader and more immersive shopping experience."

"Great store, staff were really nice and always tried to help even though I was a foreigner. They have a really wide stock of pens and refills just ask the staff (or show them a picture if you don't know Japanese) and they will probably have it in the back or in one of the hidden shelves."

"The shop is quite small and not easy to find. Don’t be confused by “Grand”, it refers to the name of the shopping mall. Prices are above average. Not worth a visit if you are a tourist.
However, nice views from the windows next to the elevator."
