Save this activity when you go to Hokkaido! ⁣ ⁣ In Otaru, a port city less than an hour away from Sapporo is famous for their glass blowing! There’s many stores that sell glassware but did you know you can make your own?⁣ ⁣ At Studio J-45, around a 25 minute bus ride from Otaru station you can design and make your own glassware. I made a reservation one month in advance online and I paid a deposit...

Reviews Summary

Otaru Canal is a picturesque spot with historic warehouses, especially enchanting when illuminated by gas lamps at night. While some find the canal itself less captivating than expected, the city offers delightful experiences like glassblowing workshops, charming shops, and delicious desserts. An overnight stay is recommended to fully appreciate its romantic ambiance after the day-trippers depart.

"One of the main attractions of Otaru however I expected a bit more from this place. There is just simple walk with busy streets on side with loud cars. Didn’t find it very relaxing. You have to cross the street or pass the canal to stop in some climatic cafe or just chill out. I thought the canal will be more calm and relaxing place."

Culture Geek Travels

"A lovely serene area in the city, lined with historic warehouses. This is quite the tourist attraction in that it’s very photogenic, you can go on a boat cruise along the canal, and there are many eateries and shops to explore nearby."

Sandra Chan

"A very short (1.6 KM) canal that was built by landfill over the beach to be easier to move goods from inland to the cargo ships. Nowadays becomes the tourist attraction.

Highly recommend to purchase tickets before hand. The canal river tour will less about 40 minutes. Headset are provided with mamy languages by selecting the right channel.

It was a relaxing event and you can walk along the canal after work."
