What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the breathtaking, unobstructed views of Mount Fuji, especially from the Otome Pass. The hike is considered rewarding, though many note its steepness and uneven terrain, emphasizing the need for good footwear. The summit restaurant is a pleasant surprise for refueling.
"Mount Ashigara, also known as Mount Kintoki, is a 1,212-meter peak renowned for its wide panoramic views of Mount Fuji.
There are several routes to the summit, ranging from easy to moderately challenging.
We ascended via the Kintoki Shrine Route and descended via the Otome Pass Route.
The trail was fairly challenging, with many stairs and only few points of interest along the way. Most of the route offered little shade, and it was quite hot.
The view from the top was decent but not particularly impressive. In fact, the view of Mount Fuji from Otome Pass was much more beautiful than from the summit of Mount Ashigara.
There were people hiking in both directions; the trail wasn’t crowded, but it wasn’t secluded either."

"Did the Mt Kintoki loop walk via Otome Pass (starting at Mt Kintoki shrine) on a glorious Spring day. Amazing views of Mt Fuji along the segment between Mt Kintoki and Otome pass. A fantastic experience! 🏔️⛰️🍃🌲🥾though be prepared for a steep ascent and descent with uneven ground and rocks…..good footwear is a must."

"I hiked up on a freezing morning from Sengokuhara via Yagurazawa pass. Some snow and ice from the bottom and quite icy near the top but did not need special gear. Fantastic views up to about 1000m then just clouds, but the snow on the path is still pretty. The times on the signs (70 min) seem quite accurate, I was only able to go about 20 min quicker really going flat out. Don't underestimate the humidity, I was drenched in sweat by the top despite the freezing conditions. Surprised to find a restaurant at the top, though I didn't go in. Much easier and less sweaty on the way down but not a lot quicker due to the snow and ice. Trail well signposted except the little loop at Yagurazawa, only a couple of minutes if you go the wrong way, but a little tricky due to the snow loaded bamboo hanging low over the path (needed to duck)."
