What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the excellent taste and lively atmosphere of the Sapporo Beer Garden, particularly the all-you-can-eat Genghis Khan. The historic beer museum is also a highlight. Some find the vegetarian options limited and the smoky environment a drawback, while others note that reservations are essential and can be hard to secure.
"The taste and atmosphere at the Sapporo Beer Garden were truly excellent. We really enjoyed our time there. One downside, however, was that we were a group of four, and one of us is a vegetarian. We had to order the meat buffet for all four of us and then add a separate seafood dish just for the vegetarian, which was a bit disappointing. Still, it’s definitely worth visiting at least once!"

"This is a review for the restaurant only. I did not go in the museum or shops. Reservation is required, and I could not find out how to book online. You need to call them.
It turns out there were different buildings, and I didn't know which one to enter. I gave the host my confirmation number, and he directed me where to go. I opted for the all-you-can-eat for ¥7500 a person and the all-you-can-drink (alcohol) ¥1800. (For soft drinks only, it is ¥800.) There were many cuts of lamb. You place the first order with the server, but the rest of the time you can order via tablet. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The lamb egg roll was surprisingly delicious! At the end of the meal, of course the smoke smell will cling to your hair and clothes. They gave me a plastic bag to cover my belongings and place it in the bin under the seat.
After eating, you notify the server that you are ready to pay. Then you bring the slip/clipboard out to the cashier.
Credit card accepted.
Bathroom available.
Wifi - unsure"

"Good grilled hot pan. What recommended was the lamp and variety of sapporo beer! 🍺
The atmosphere kinda feels like canteen but people come here to have a good time in a big table or group. With the snow outside make the vibe always feel like Christmas! 🎄 😆"

Exploring the Sapporo Beer Museum
Visitors can learn about the founder, Seibei Nakano, and the innovations that shaped the brewery. While official English tours might not always be available, multilingual information cards and devices are often provided to enhance the visitor experience. The highlight for many is the tasting corner at the end of the tour, where you can sample different Sapporo beers (or soft drinks for non-drinkers) to compare the classic taste with newer formulations.
This educational and enjoyable experience sets the stage perfectly for a meal at the adjacent Beer Garden, allowing you to appreciate the heritage behind the brews you'll be enjoying. It’s a must-do for beer enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
The Genghis Khan Experience
The all-you-can-eat (AYCE) option, particularly in halls like Poplar, is a major draw. It allows diners to sample various cuts of lamb and other meats, often accompanied by fresh vegetables. While the grilling process is undeniably smoky, it's part of the authentic atmosphere. Many visitors find the taste of the lamb, combined with the unique Sapporo beer, to be a highlight of their trip.
For those who prefer a less smoky environment or a more refined meal, halls like Garden Grill offer à la carte options and well-ventilated IH grills. Regardless of the hall, the Genghis Khan meal at Sapporo Beer Garden is a memorable culinary adventure, offering a taste of Hokkaido's rich food culture.
Navigating the Beer Garden Halls
Lilac Hall offers a slightly more subdued and private setting, suitable for couples or smaller groups. It typically serves both à la carte dishes and set menus, including Genghis Khan. Garden Grill is often considered the most upscale option, featuring spacious tables, excellent ventilation, and a focus on quality over quantity, with à la carte selections and the unique Kaitakushi beer.
When booking, it's important to specify which hall you're interested in, as availability and offerings can vary. Some halls may be closed due to construction or seasonal changes, so always check the latest information.
