"Climbed it at the beginning of November.
The road to the northern entrance was closed due to snow accumulation, so we climbed through the southern station.
The info found in English was definitely lacking:
This climb during this month is difficult!
The trails weren't maintained properly: The stairs broken at some parts, the wooden plates were not stable, especially the ones above the pond - we had to find another way around, there were no rails or ropes were there should have been, trees that fell during storms weren't treated or removed from the path. In addition, there's a low exposed part (after you pass Odake) with very strong wind. We also found fresh bear footprints (We had the bear bells but the wind was so crazy at that low part they stopped ringing). Some trails were very narrow and exposed as well..
The view was crazy beautiful. But the climb was a few levels higher than what we had expected. So bear that in mind if you're thinking of hiking/ climbing up this mountain."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Be mindful of the trail's moderate difficulty and potential for uneven terrain. Ensure children are wearing appropriate footwear and are supervised closely, especially near any exposed or unstable sections. Carrying plenty of snacks and water is also a good idea, as facilities on the mountain are limited.
🌿 Nature Enthusiasts & Hikers
For the best experience, plan your visit during the June-August window to coincide with the peak flower season. Be prepared for varying weather conditions and ensure you have sturdy hiking gear. For those seeking a more adventurous challenge, consider the late autumn hikes, but be fully aware of the increased risks and necessary precautions, including checking trail reports and carrying safety equipment.

Navigating the Trails
However, it's crucial to be aware of the changing trail conditions. While generally moderate, reports from late autumn highlight significant challenges: broken stairs, unstable wooden plates (especially near ponds), lack of railings, and fallen trees obstructing paths. These conditions can elevate the difficulty considerably, requiring careful navigation and preparedness.
For a safer and more enjoyable hike, it's recommended to visit during the peak bloom season (June-August) when trails are typically better maintained. Always check weather forecasts and trail status before embarking, and be equipped with appropriate gear for potentially rugged terrain.
Seasonal Beauty and Safety
Conversely, visiting outside this window, especially in late autumn, presents a different, more challenging experience. Snow accumulation can close access roads, and the trails themselves may become hazardous. Hikers have reported broken infrastructure and exposed sections with strong winds, making the climb significantly more demanding than anticipated.
Therefore, understanding the seasonal risks and rewards is paramount. While the summer offers unparalleled floral beauty and moderate hiking, late autumn demands a higher level of preparedness for difficult conditions and potential hazards like wildlife.
