Reviews Summary

Visitors find Shimoda Port to be a charming and historically significant location, offering a relaxed atmosphere and beautiful coastal views. The presence of working fishing boats and the unique Black Ship sightseeing cruise are frequently highlighted as enjoyable aspects. Some note it's a calm, small port, perfect for a peaceful break.

"Due to my work, I often drive to Shimoda these days, and I often stop by Shimoda Port for a break. The roadside station next to the port has a spacious parking lot and is adjacent to the parking lot on the port side, so it's nice that you can park comfortably in either place.

All you can see are fishermen casting their lines, as well as the Black Ship sightseeing boat and the Japan Coast Guard ship. Surrounded by the sound of the waves, you can naturally enjoy the unique atmosphere of a port town. The parking lot on the port side in particular is full of openness, and I always enjoy spending time there while feeling the sea breeze.

Shimoda Port is known as the place where Perry's fleet arrived in 1854 and the Treaty of Peace and Amity between the United States and Japan was signed. This port, which was the stage for the history of Japan's opening to the world, still has a sightseeing boat modeled after the Black Ship quietly moored, quietly passing on the memories of the past."

"Located in a bay near the southern tip of the Izu Peninsula, Shimoda Port has prospered as a port of call for ships heading to Edo since the Edo period, with 3,000 Sengoku ships entering the port every year. It became the first port in Japan to open, and the black ships of Perry's fleet also dropped anchor in Shimoda Bay."

"It is a calm and small port. There is something deep in emotion when I think that Kurofune came here. Just over 5 minutes by taxi from the station. There is also a bus, but since I had time to go around Shimoda Port, I took a shortcut. The Kurofune Shimoda Port tour was also nice. The local people were also very kind. And my personal surprise was seeing a Japan Coast Guard ship up close. I can see Maritime Self-Defense Force ships when I go to Yokosuka, but this was my first time seeing a Coast Guard ship. And I'm cleaning. It may not be unusual for locals, but personally it was a surprise."
