As you walk down the streets of Ouchi-juku, you'll come across a magnificent torii gate on your left. If you continue walking, you'll come across another torii gate, and if you go further in, you'll see the shrine grounds. It's about a 10-minute walk from passing through the first torii gate to the shrine grounds.
The large cedar tree behind the shrine is said to be 800 years old, and you can really feel its power.
The greenery was beautiful. The moss and other things made it look like something out of a Ghibli movie. Everyone was crowding the streets of Ouchi-juku, and there was only one other group of worshippers there, so we were able to pray at our own pace.
As it's unstaffed, you can't get a goshuin stamp here (there are signs on the streets of Ouchi-juku)."

It's said that Emperor Takakura Mochihito, who fled after being defeated in battle with the Taira clan, is enshrined here.
From the Warring States period to the present day,
it has been revered as the guardian deity of Ouchi-juku.
A statue of Acala is also enshrined along the approach,
and a sword-like object is offered.
It's clear that this shrine is beloved by the community."

After passing through the vast fields, a small torii gate comes into view, and the area around it is surrounded by unusually large trees, giving it a mystical, sacred feel.
The inside is a little cool, which adds to the atmosphere. Behind the shrine is a sacred tree that is over 50m tall, and the shrine seems to offer great blessings, but there is apparently a hornet's nest there, so it may be best not to get too close to the sacred tree itself."
