Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the incredible freshness and generous portions of seafood, especially the thick-cut tuna sashimi and unique fried tuna dishes, all offered at great value. While the main market is under renovation, the adjacent restaurant buildings provide a fantastic dining experience, though arriving early is recommended to avoid the local lunch rush.

"The market itself is closed for renovation, but next to it has 2 buildings that offer a lot of kaizendon restaurants - we tried the one on the second level directly in front of the stairs and is really impressed with the food, especially the freshness and how thick each slice of the tuna sashimi is. First time trying the fried tuna and really enjoyed it - it has the texture of karaage but lighter and crisp batter with a hint of lemon and doesn’t feel greasy at all."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Navigating the Renovations

The primary Kashi no Ichi fish market building is currently undergoing renovations. However, this doesn't mean you'll miss out on the incredible seafood experience. Two adjacent buildings have been transformed into bustling hubs filled with a wide variety of seafood restaurants. These temporary setups offer a fantastic alternative, ensuring visitors can still savor the freshest catches.

Visitors have reported that the new building is comfortable and well-equipped. The key is to understand that while the traditional market stalls might be temporarily unavailable, the culinary heart of Kashi no Ichi beats strongly in its neighboring eateries. Plan your visit with this temporary arrangement in mind, and you'll still have a memorable dining experience. Reddit

The Art of Kaisendon

Kaisendon, a cornerstone of the Kashi no Ichi experience, is more than just a meal; it's a visual and culinary masterpiece. These rice bowls are generously topped with an array of the freshest sashimi, meticulously arranged to create a vibrant mosaic of colors and textures. Each spoonful offers a delightful burst of oceanic flavor, showcasing the quality of the seafood.

What sets some Kaisendon bowls apart are the 'surprise toppings' hidden beneath the sashimi layers, transforming the dish into a cleverly disguised chirashi sushi bowl. This element of discovery adds an extra layer of enjoyment. The freshness and thickness of the sashimi, particularly the tuna, are consistently praised by visitors, making it a must-try for any seafood enthusiast. Reddit

Beyond Sashimi: Unique Flavors

While sashimi is undoubtedly the star, Kashi no Ichi offers unique culinary adventures. One such standout is the fried tuna. This dish offers a delightful contrast to raw preparations, featuring a light, crispy batter that's reminiscent of karaage but with a more delicate texture. A hint of lemon brightens the flavor, and it's noted for not feeling greasy at all.

This innovative approach to seafood preparation highlights the creativity of the local chefs. Trying dishes like fried tuna provides a broader appreciation for the versatility of fresh fish and offers a memorable taste experience that goes beyond the typical market offerings. It's a testament to the culinary exploration available at Kashi no Ichi. Reddit
