Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking panoramic views from Tokyo Skytree, especially during sunset and at night when the city lights sparkle. However, many highlight the significant issue of long queues and waiting times, even with advance tickets, which can detract from the overall experience. Reddit

"The Tokyo SKYTREE Tembo Deck (located on the 350th, 345th, and 340th floors) is the lower observation deck of the two available. Visitors can enjoy stunning views of Tokyo through its glass floors and explore its variety of restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, and a commemorative photo corner.

Additional facilities include a currency exchange desk, ticket counter, mobile battery rental service, and luggage lockers. The Tembo Deck is fully accessible and wheelchair-friendly, making it the highest point accessible by wheelchair."

"Overall experience was just over 2 hours without stopping for cafes. Of that time, at least 90% is spent waiting in line. Let me summarize what you can expect in your experience without exaggerating. Upon arriving you will wait to queue to convert your advance digital ticket to a paper ticket, then you’ll wait to go up to 350m floor, you’ll wait to go to 445m floor, you’ll wait to go down to 345m, you’ll wait to see thru the glass floor, and finally you’ll wait to take the elevator down to 5f. Theres plenty of restrooms and the views are great. But despite how awesome the views are I consider the experience to be very negative. I was relieved when I was finally done queuing in lines. SkyTree observation puts caps on how many tickets they sell. But to be honest, whatever their limit is, its likely not able to be any bigger if they wanted since they sell tickets in 30m windows and it took us 30 minutes from arriving to getting on the elevator to 350m floor. It’s evident they are operating with way too many people per time slot. If you chose to go you will enjoy the view but set your expectations for how unpleasant the overall experience will be."

"Simply Amazing! Plan your visit for about 30 minutes before sunset on a clear-ish day and you won’t be disappointed!

I bought the combo Tembo deck + galleria ticket and it was worth it to see the city from both 350 meters as well as 450 meters!

I will be back for sure! P.S. this is the tallest man-made structure in all of Japan!"

Navigating the Queues: A Traveler's Guide

Many visitors report that the most significant challenge at Tokyo Skytree is the extensive queuing. Even with advance tickets, expect to wait for ticket conversion, elevator access to the 350m floor, the ascent to the 445m floor, the descent to the 345m floor, and the glass floor viewing area. Some reviews suggest that the operational capacity might be exceeded during peak times, leading to prolonged waits. Reddit

To mitigate this, visiting on a weekday morning is frequently recommended. Purchasing tickets in advance is crucial, and while it doesn't eliminate all queues, it streamlines the process. Consider the combo ticket if you plan to visit both the Tembo Deck and Tembo Galleria to avoid separate queues for each. Reddit

Pro-tip: If you're on a tight schedule, factor in at least 2-3 hours for your visit, with a significant portion dedicated to waiting. Some travelers found the experience negative due to the excessive waiting, despite enjoying the views. Reddit

Capturing the Perfect Shot: Photography Tips

Photographing the Tokyo skyline from the Skytree can be rewarding, but it comes with its challenges. During the day, clear weather is paramount for unobstructed panoramic views. Wide-angle lenses are ideal for capturing the vastness of the city, while telephoto lenses can help you zoom in on specific landmarks. Instagram

Night photography presents a unique hurdle: ad reflections on the glass. To minimize these, try to position yourself as close to the glass as possible and use a lens hood. Some photographers suggest using a dark cloth to block ambient light from reflecting. Reddit While tripods are generally not allowed on the observation decks, check the official Skytree website for the most current regulations. TikTok

Remember that the Tembo Deck has a glass floor, offering a thrilling perspective looking straight down. This can make for dramatic photos, but be mindful of motion sickness and the crowds vying for a spot. Instagram

Beyond the View: Dining and Shopping

Tokyo Skytree isn't just about the breathtaking vistas; it also offers a comprehensive visitor experience with dining and shopping options. The Solamachi shopping complex at the base of the tower is a destination in itself, housing a wide array of shops and restaurants catering to diverse tastes and budgets. Reddit

On the observation decks themselves, you'll find cafes and souvenir shops. These are convenient for a quick snack or picking up a memento. While dining options within the Skytree can be pricier than elsewhere in Tokyo, they offer the unique advantage of enjoying your meal with a spectacular city backdrop. Instagram

From local Japanese delicacies to international cuisine, there's something for everyone. If you're looking for a more extensive culinary exploration, the Solamachi complex is the place to be, offering everything from casual eateries to more upscale dining establishments. TikTok
