What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Mekkun House Tahara Market for its abundant and reasonably priced farm-fresh produce, especially the seasonal melons. The variety of food options, from fast food to sit-down restaurants, and convenient amenities like restrooms and a rest area make it a popular stop. Some found the building's structure a bit bureaucratic, but overall, it's a highly recommended roadside station for its quality and convenience.
"November 30, 2025 (Reiwa 7), 11:00 AM ~
I stopped by for the roadside station stamp rally. Maybe it was just my imagination, but the building's structure felt a bit bureaucratic. The first floor houses a farm-fresh market, a tourist information center, a meat fast food restaurant, and a takoyaki (octopus ball) stand. The second floor houses Misaki Meguritei, a restaurant run by Irago Hotel & Resort.
I've written a review of Misaki Meguritei elsewhere, so please refer to that.
The roadside station stamp is located to the right of the signboard on the right side of the entrance. It's fairly easy to find."

"This roadside station is located in Tahara City. It mainly sells agricultural products from Tahara City directly from the farm. They also sometimes sell sweets and other items. They also have fish dishes such as tsukudani. There is also a restaurant, so you can enjoy a delicious lunch after your shopping. With the entire National Route 23 now open, it has become easier to visit Mekkun House."

"I stopped off for a break. The Atsumi Peninsula's farm-fresh market is amazing. In the summer, watermelons and melons were on sale in huge quantities. Judging from the size alone, the prices seemed to be about the same as those sold directly at melon farms.
They also sold outlet melons, presumably with the damaged parts cut off, at a very low price. Outlet melons seem to be quite popular. I thought it would be worth it if you plan to take them home and eat them right away.
They also had fairly large watermelons for around 2,000 yen, a price you wouldn't find in the Kanto region.
You can eat there and there's a free rest area, so it's a good place to take a break if you're tired from touring."
