Reviews Summary

Hobby Off Ueno is a popular second-hand store offering a vast array of hobby items, from retro games to musical instruments. While many visitors appreciate the extensive selection and the thrill of finding unique treasures, some caution that prices, particularly for retro games, can be surprisingly high compared to other locations. It's a destination best suited for dedicated collectors rather than casual souvenir shoppers.

"I purchased a bucket list item here: a 1989 Original Gameboy! They had a couple in the case and the staff kindly assisted me with testing them out to decide which one I wanted. The price was reasonable considering the product. ありがとうございます!"

"Prices...yikes. this will pretty much summarize my whole review to be honest.

Back in 2023, that year seems to have been the last year where the prices of this type of merchandise was decent or even good. But those days are long gone.

You will not see any bargains in Tokyo or neighboring locations. I have looked all around and this just doesn't seem realistic anymore.

The selection was good but that is only because the prices keep the selection good."

C Luna

"Tourist Trap!
Used VOX Pathfinder 10 amps, which sell for 4,400 yen at other stores in the same chain, and junk Playtech Stratocaster-type guitars are being sold here for 8,800 yen. The PC accessories section is even worse: for example, you can buy a new, premium high-speed HDMI cable at the nearby Daiso for 330 yen, but this store sells a junk (unwarranted) high-speed HDMI cable for 550 yen. This store is not worth spending your valuable time on during your trip to Japan."
