"2022.? 5/6...On the way back from a day trip to Kyoto, I deliberately avoided Kyoto Higashi IC and intended to head to Hamaotsu, but I accidentally took the Kosai Road.
Like the road that runs through the Nara Basin and Wakayama City, it's toll-free, but you could say it's essentially a highway.
Anyway, since I'd already made the mistake of entering it, I decided to head to one of the roadside stations along the route.
There's also this one along the lakeside road heading towards Maibara.
I was trying to take some photos of the windmills and other idyllic scenery, but my smartphone wouldn't turn on!?
Was it because I turned it off when I left Kyoto (because the battery was draining so quickly and I had very little left)?
So, reluctantly, I had to retreat (sniff).

2025.11/1...Another day trip to Kyoto.
This time, since I was going through Shiga Prefecture on my way back, I decided to take the Kosai Road route.
My goal was to get my hands on a souvenir made with Adberry (which, in my experience, is basically only sold in the Kosai area).
However, before I knew it, I'd passed by the Azumigawa Roadside Station, the largest sales point for Adberry.
I was also there to relieve myself, so even though I was almost in "pee mode" mode, I entered without hesitation, took my pee, and finally breathed a sigh of relief.
(Excuse me) They also had a small selection of Adberry products, and I selected the wafers, finally got them, and was relieved.
After that, I was engrossed in taking photos of the fairytale-like atmosphere created by the large and small windmills.
It was as if I was recapturing those lost moments."

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The Changing Landscape of Roadside Stations

Shinasahi Windmill Village exemplifies a common trend where some roadside stations, or 'Michi-no-Eki,' evolve or cease to operate in their original capacity. While once a bustling hub for travelers seeking local produce, souvenirs, and rest, it now primarily serves as a functional rest stop with parking and toilets. This shift highlights the dynamic nature of tourist infrastructure and the need for visitors to verify current operational status before arrival. Reddit

Travelers seeking the full 'Michi-no-Eki' experience, including stamp collection, should be prepared for potential changes. The advice to contact local city halls, like Takashima City Hall, for stamp availability is crucial. This proactive step can save disappointment and ensure that collecting these unique travel mementos remains possible, even if the original location is no longer active. Reddit

The picturesque windmills remain a draw, offering a visual appeal that transcends the station's operational status. They contribute to the 'fairytale-like atmosphere' that many visitors still appreciate, making it a worthwhile stop for a brief scenic break along the Kosai Road. Reddit

Navigating Roadside Station Stamps

For dedicated collectors of 'Michi-no-Eki' stamps, Shinasahi Windmill Village presents a unique challenge. The closure of the station means the traditional stamp location is likely inaccessible. However, as noted by visitors, the stamp may still be obtainable through alternative means, such as at the local city hall. Reddit

This practice of relocating stamp availability is not uncommon for closed or relocated roadside stations. It's a testament to the dedication of local tourism boards to maintain these popular collector's items. Travelers are advised to research the specific 'Michi-no-Eki' they plan to visit and check for any updates regarding stamp locations, especially if the station has undergone changes. Reddit

In cases like Shinasahi, where the adjacent glamping facility might also be closed, confirming stamp availability at Takashima City Hall during weekdays is the most reliable approach. This ensures that your journey to collect the stamp is successful, even if the original roadside station is no longer operational. Reddit
