What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Tokushima Prefectural Museum to be a high-quality, engaging, and affordable destination, offering a comprehensive look at the region's natural history, culture, and art. While exhibits are primarily in Japanese, interactive elements and impressive displays like dinosaur skeletons make it enjoyable for all. Some note that staff presence can feel a bit constant, and more emphasis on the local puppet theater would be welcome.
"Worth it.
I hate paying to go to museums. Japan has many good free museums and some paid museums have small collections. This museum is big, interactive and has lots of different exhibits to appeal to a wide audience. I especially liked the dinosaur skeletons and other animal skeletons.
The only negative would be the staff. They were all friendly and pleasant, but we're often sitting in random places throughout the exhibits. I assume to keep visitors from touching or otherwise disturbing the displays. I was surprised several times to see someone sitting quietly off to the side in what I thought was an empty room.
Plenty of free parking."

"Very nice campus. There's a natural history/Tokushima history museum, an art museum, and a cat shrine all together. Everything is high quality and well put together."

"Great local museum that features dinosaurs, natural life, geography, and Japanese history all in one. It's only 400 yen and older folk get in for free, which is rare for non Japanese citizens in my experience. We just showed our companions passport and he got in for free. Exhibits are all in Japanese, but still it was enjoyable with some google translate help"
