What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Suiren-numa Pond is appreciated for its scenic beauty, particularly its vibrant autumn colors and unique winter snow walls. However, visitors note that it can become very crowded, diminishing its peaceful appeal, and parking can be challenging during peak times. It's often considered a pleasant stop rather than a destination in itself.
"I went day in rainy day. there is a fog cover this place made atmosphere silimar to movie."

"I chanced upon this whilst on my way out of the area. Apparently the snow accumulation can be as high as 11metres!
I visited this place 1st of November.

"It's okay. It's not a must see location. Just a small pond with a walkway and deck overlooking it. It's usually very busy, especially in autumn. So that takes away from any peacefulness. There is a bathroom here. The road is slightly wider so cars can park, but when it's busy it's common for people to keep parking along the narrow part of the road and it becomes hard to drive past. One good thing, in the winter after the Gold Route is open, you can go up the stairs and stand on top of the snow wall here. That's what made me give it 4 stars rather than 3."

Seasonal Beauty: Autumn vs. Winter
In winter, the pond presents a starkly different, yet equally impressive, spectacle. The 'Hakkoda-Towada Gold Line' road, which encircles the area, is often closed due to snow. However, when it reopens in spring, visitors can witness the magnificent snow walls that line the route, some reaching impressive heights. Standing atop these snow formations offers a unique perspective and a memorable winter experience.
While autumn is celebrated for its color, the winter snow walls provide a unique, almost otherworldly, landscape. Both seasons offer compelling reasons to visit, depending on your preference for vibrant hues or dramatic snow formations.
Navigating Crowds and Access
Parking can be a significant issue when the pond is crowded. The designated parking area is relatively small, and when it's full, visitors tend to park along the narrow road. This can create congestion and make it difficult for vehicles to pass. If you are driving yourself, be prepared for potential delays or consider alternative transportation if available and convenient. For those on a tighter schedule or relying on public transport, it's worth assessing if a dedicated trip solely for Suiren-numa Pond is the best use of your time, as some travelers suggest it might not be a 'must-see' if you have limited time.
