What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Currently undergoing extensive renovations until March 2027, the Chiba Family Magariya Tsuchibuchi is inaccessible for full exploration. Visitors can only view the exterior from the parking lot. However, its designation as an Important Cultural Property and the ongoing preservation efforts are noted with anticipation for its future reopening.
"The Former Chiba House is currently undergoing repairs and will be open to the public once a year in October. Repairs will be completed in March 2027. Please wait for a while before opening to the public."
吉田克彦
"The Chiba family has a small castle-like mansion at the foot of the mountains west of Tono City. The main house was constructed during the Tenpo era, and the current layout of the mansion was completed by the end of the Taisho era. The layout of the mansion, including the outbuildings and stone walls, has been well preserved, and the buildings and land (main house, storehouse, stone storehouse, Inari shrine (with torii gate), carpenter's shed, and hase shed) were designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan in 2007. It would be great if this wonderful cultural asset could be passed down to future generations."
トラえもん
"We are currently disassembling everything including the stone walls and undergoing major repairs.
It looks like it will take about 10 years to finish, so I'm looking forward to revisiting this place when that time comes."
