Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the unique, 'hell-like' geothermal landscape of Unzen Jigoku, with its steaming vents and bubbling mud. The presence of friendly cats and the experience of trying onsen eggs are frequently highlighted as delightful additions. While the strong sulfur smell is noticeable, most find it a small price to pay for such a visually striking and memorable natural wonder.

"When I think of Kyushu, I pictured the rolling green hills of Kumamoto, the sunsets from atop Nagasaki’s viewpoint, Miyazaki’s great waves, and Kagoshima’s burping volcano. But I now see Unzen’s hells and sulfuric steam billowing from the ground. It is such an out of this world you’re such an out of this world scene that you would think this was a movie set. But with all the bubbling sounds and the egg smells you definitely feel the power the Earth has below. Definitely a place to visit when visiting Kyushu because these hells are heavenly to experience."

"A site with active geothermal activities. Multiple steam of sulphuric gases are popping out from everywhere in the surrounding area.

There is a trail with gentle slope and stairways, which connects to different geothermal spots and takes a 45-minute walk to finish.

Cats are found in the area for enjoying the geo heat, especially at night!"
