It is said to be the place where Emperor Jimmu's eldest brother, Hikogosose no Mikoto, was buried, and with the development of State Shinto after the Meiji Restoration, the shrine was given the status of a former Kanpei Taisha (Great Shrine of the Imperial Court) and the grounds were developed.
Visiting Hizen Shrine, Kunikake Shrine, and Itakiso Shrine, located on the east side of Wakayama City, together is called Wakayama's Sansha Mairi, and this time I followed that custom and visited on the Kishigawa Line. There is a wide approach and a magnificent shrine building in the lush forest, and the grounds were very quiet.
