"It was an impressive collection and even though the museum is small it is actually much larger than other art museums I have been to in Japan. The current temporary exhibit about Kawase Hasui is very extensive and amazing. It showcases the beauty of Japan!"

"If you're looking for a rather unusual museum in the somewhat small city of Yamagata that happens to have a rather large amount of famous impressionists' paintings, you have found it here at the Yamagata Museum of Art. I kid you not, you will find some lovely paintings by Monet and Van Gogh here at this tiny little museum. You will also find different exhibits depending on when you are there. Enjoy!"

Jared Garrett

"800¥ to go inside, and maybe you could spend 20-30 minutes. The collection was donated by Hasegawa family for Japanese Art side of the museum. The Modern French Art collection was loaned by Yoshino Gypsum, a very big building materials company. They have very beautiful Monet’s paintings: Water-Lillies & Undergrowth in Saint-German Forest, which I was truly mesmerized by those two. They have some Picasso as well."
