Reviews Summary

Kaikake Onsen is lauded as a spectacular, traditional onsen nestled in the mountains, offering a unique and exclusive experience due to its adventurous access road. Visitors rave about the mineral-rich waters, the serene atmosphere, and the historical charm of the ryokan. While the dining hours are specific and a car is essential, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, highlighting it as a hidden gem worth the journey.

"Most amazing onsen in the mountains! Worth the long drive and day trip. The drive down is exciting and makes it more exclusive. You drive down a narrow steep hill (road not in best shape) and onto and long skinny bridge. Only one lane.

My favorite onsen I've gone to and its quite simple. Three baths ranging from hot, warm (outdoor), and room temperature. The traditional style makes it so homey, clean, and nice. This place is well maintained... like so nice. The soaps smell delicious (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash included. Feels like a luxurious onsen experience. I also feel really soft after bathing in their onsen water.

Price was 1,200 per adult. Grounds are beautiful to relax and enjoy the views. I arrived just after lunch time and got the whole place to myself, which added to the experience. Now I hope to stay at this ryokan one day 🙌. Unfortunately the restaurant was closed as they have lunch time and evening hours.

Staff was kind and courteous."

"Onsen is perfect with energy and great view. Service and meal are okay. Interior and room are outstanding. Need to drive a car to access to there. Hidden gem in Niigata."

Wilf

"This is the nicest Traditional Onsen Ryokan in Niigata. The road leading to it is nothing short of spectacular and the outdoor baths also offer a truly unique experience. The water is not very hot which makes it a good option for a hot day as the men's outdoor baths is mostly in the shade. The building itself is a piece of natural heritage and you can see the pictures of many Japanese and Foreign famous artists who stayed there over the years. This hot spring has been around for a very long time and you can feel the history between its walls."
