What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the stunning natural beauty of the Zao Echo Line, from the unique snow corridor in spring to the vibrant autumn foliage and the mesmerizing Okama Crater. The scenic drive is a major highlight, though overtourism can lead to significant delays and challenges in accessing popular spots.
"This is a great spot for a road trip to enjoy the autumn leaves. During my visit on October 13, 2024, the leaves hadn’t fully changed color yet, but it was still beautiful. The road trip was amazing, but due to overtourism, it took me almost 4 hours to reach Obama Crater, which was quite challenging. It’s definitely worth the visit, but be sure to plan your time wisely. Bring enough food, as it can be scarce in the area. Also, plan your trip to catch the sunset. There are enough parking lots available."

"12 Apr 2024: Enjoyed Zao Echo Line Snow Wall walk. It is not accessible by private car during this period but only through tour agency.
The elevation is about 1500 meters. There are washroom at the parking area. Delicious hot onion soup and red-bean mochi were served at the parking area. They are free.
A veteran guide was assigned to walk with us and provide information regards Zao Echo line. There was also free snow sled at parking area.
It was a pleasant experience."

"Visited this area at the start of May and the view was great!
In my opinion, it is comparable to the Tateyama Snow Corridor (less snow but also much less crowded).
It was still rather cold but there is a small shop selling hot drinks and snacks. :)
Note: There is a small fee to pay (¥500, around USD3.50) for vehicles driving up."
