Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Astana Grand Mosque for its stunning, massive architecture and welcoming atmosphere. Many highlight the free provision of attire for women and the peaceful ambiance, making it a must-see for tourists. However, parking, especially on Fridays, can be a significant challenge.

"The Grand Mosque of Astana is a wonderful place to visit. Everything is well-organized and beautifully maintained. You can come with family or alone. I visited with my family and our 1-year-old son—he was so happy, walking around and filling the space with his joyful little voice. Women are advised to wear modest clothing.

The area includes a souvenir market, a coffee shop, a bookstore, and even small cafes—everything you need for a pleasant visit. The mosque is open for all 5 daily prayers, and the Imams and Quran reciters are always there to assist.
There’s also a lovely photo zone for newlyweds, where many couples take wedding pictures. The parking area is huge. Easy to get there by public bus.
It is the largest mosque in Central Asia, with space for up to 30,000 worshippers.

A big thank you to those who built and continue to support this beautiful place. It’s truly a jewel of the capital city."

"I love it here. They allow non muslims to get inside. Just make sure to respect and dress accordingly. This mosque is so huge, the biggest in Central Asia. They have a cafe and souvenir shop inside. You can also go up to one of the minarets for 2000 Tenge. A random kind Kazakh man paid for our entrance fees, he was so nice and welcoming. May Allah bless you always. Please visit this wonderful and solemn mosque when in Astana. I think best time to visit is in the morning after prayers or afternoon from 2pm to 4pm."

Roel Moises Acedillo

"The Astana Grand Mosque, completed in 2022, is a stunning symbol of faith, craftsmanship, and modern Islamic architecture in Kazakhstan. As the largest mosque in Central Asia and one of the largest in the world, its sheer scale and design speak to deep spiritual representation and national pride.

The mosque’s majestic dome soars 83 m high and spans 62 m in diameter, making it one of the largest of its kind anywhere. Encircling it are four elegant minarets, each reaching 130 m and divided into five distinct segments—symbolizing the five pillars of Islam. The left-wing minaret houses an observation elevator offering panoramic city views.

Approaching the mosque, visitors pass through a towering 12.4 m wooden entrance door, crafted from hard iroko wood and one of the tallest wooden doors globally. Its Kazakh pattern carvings and striking white Arabic script on deep blue set a tone of artistry and tradition.

Inside, the splendor continues: the walls and interior of the dome are adorned with vibrant patterns, Quranic verses, and prayers rendered by Kazakh calligrapher Asylbek Baizakuly. On the qibla wall, the 99 names of Allah glow in golden mosaic, extending 100 m in length and 22.4 m in height, composed of over 25 million colored glass tiles.

The mosque’s massive prayer hall and adjoining women’s gallery are fully covered by a hand‑woven carpet spanning over 15,500 m², the world’s largest of its kind, featuring traditional Kazakh motifs. Beneath the central dome hangs an immense chandelier, 27 m in diameter and weighing 27 tons, made up of over 1.3 million crystal pieces—an engineering marvel.

More than just a religious site, the mosque is a multifunctional complex—housing classrooms, conference halls, Quran reading rooms, meeting areas, and even a tunnel allowing city buses to pass underneath during harsh weather.

Inside and out, the Astana Grand Mosque blends faith and national identity. It welcomes worshippers and visitors of all backgrounds with proper attire, respect, and reflection. Whether at sunrise, during daily prayers, or illuminated at night, this mosque is more than architecture—it’s a monument of spirituality, unity, and Kazakhstan’s architectural ambition."
