Reviews Summary

Kariokor Market is praised for its authentic Kenyan crafts, particularly beadwork and leather goods, at affordable local prices. Visitors appreciate the polite vendors and the opportunity to bargain. However, some note that the market could benefit from better maintenance and drainage, and the main road can be chaotic.

"Kariokor Market. A word I've heard zero times in my life. Lol.
However, today, I had the golden opportunity of visiting this amazing place that's full of art.
They have raw beads that you can buy at affordable, local rates. Just like any business, they will profile you. This is to mean, you will pay based on how you look. The prices aren't too crazy though.

I got there via Uber since I'd never been and I didn't know where it was. It's a safe market that's quiet and well organized. No one is in your face trying to sell you items. No one grabs you claiming to have the best prices in the market. You are welcomed warmly by the vendors. Most of the vendors are women and this is just amazing. I believe the Government can do better in supporting this amazing place. It could do with some renovations, including the drainage system.

As I walked around, the prices went lower. Go early, walk around and you're sure to find some amazing gems.

I got some amazing, affordable sisal mats.
I plan to visit this marketplace again.
I went there for less than half an hour today.

I loved my experience.
The main road is a bit chaotic though so, watch yourself as you're crossing the road.

Shout out to the amazing vendors in there.
Shout out to all the amazing women who are working hard to earn a living there."

"Good place to buy handcrafted goods. Fair prices. Safe and polite vendors. They do not push wares in your face or compete for your attention. Good variety of condo, bags, sandals & beaded stuff. Craftsmen doing adjustments as you’d wish. The county government has not kept the place clean. No proper drainage within the market and stall areas. It’s not the vendors’ fault. But safe and good shopping experience overall. No proper parking so uber there if you need to get there and shop without anxiety. I didn’t see batiks and carvings so the other upmarket markets may give one the whole “ do”."

Mary Kiarie

"Best prices for traditional sandals, necklaces, Calabashes, wooden carvings and Kenya branded t-shirts. A lot of other local curials are available here. Good place to get souvenirs. It does get busy so best to go before the afternoon."
