Reviews Summary

Visitors often overlook Nahr el-Kalb, but those who stop are rewarded with a fascinating historical site. The ancient inscriptions carved into the rocks are the main draw, offering a tangible connection to past civilizations. While some find it a quick stop, others appreciate the depth of history and the surrounding Roman ruins.

"Most of us simply drive by this river without knowing its historical importance. Take a few minutes to walk up the stairs and read around 20 inscriptions carved into the walls near the river dating tens of hundreds of years back. And if you go a bit up-river you can see a Roman bridge and acquedcuts."

AbdulRehman Ammouni

"Nahr al-Kalb, which means Dog River, is a 31 km long river that originates from a spring near Jaita Cave and flows into the Mediterranean Sea. This region is of historical importance because of its inscriptions. More than 20 inscriptions have been installed, including three Egyptian hieroglyphic tablets, tablets from the Assyrian, Babylonian, Roman periods, etc. A monument to Lebanon's independence in 1946 and a memorial to the departure of the Israeli occupiers in 2000 were also erected in the area. On the other side of the river and above the heights, there is a statue of Christ that has a special beauty."

Eh San

"The commemorative stelae of Naher el-Kaleb are a group of over 20 inscriptions and rock reliefs carved into the limestone rocks around the estuary of the Nahr El-Kaleb."
