Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the stunning views from the Chemin de la Corniche and the charming atmosphere of The Grund. The city's free public transport is a significant plus, making exploration easy and affordable. Some find the city can be quiet outside of peak season, and certain dining options can be pricey.

"Oh my god, what a fantastic experience! I could sit here all day long and just enjoy. I call myself a pigeon enthusiast and oh my... this is pigeon heaven. I have seen multiple lovebirds, my personal favorites. Two downsides. In the summer there are many wasps and the children scared those lovely pigeons away.

I am glad I came. I would surely cum again!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Exploring the Historic Fortifications

Luxembourg City's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, largely due to its impressive historical fortifications. The Bock Casemates are a must-visit, offering a glimpse into the city's defensive past. These underground tunnels, carved into the rock, served as shelters and barracks for soldiers. Exploring their depths feels like stepping back in time. Instagram

Beyond the casemates, the Chemin de la Corniche provides a stunning vantage point to appreciate the sheer scale of the fortifications and the dramatic landscape. This elevated walkway, often called 'Europe's most beautiful balcony,' offers breathtaking views over the Alzette valley and the Grund. It’s a perfect spot to understand how the city’s strategic location shaped its history. Instagram

Walking along the remnants of the old city walls and bastions gives you a tangible connection to Luxembourg's rich military heritage. The integration of these fortifications into the natural topography is a testament to ingenious engineering and a key reason for the Old Town's UNESCO status. Instagram

The Charm of The Grund

Nestled in the valley below the main city, The Grund is a picturesque and historic neighborhood that offers a different perspective of Luxembourg City. Its charming cobblestone streets, traditional houses, and riverside setting create a uniquely tranquil atmosphere, especially compared to the bustling upper town. Instagram+1

This area is dotted with cozy cafes, traditional pubs, and restaurants, making it an ideal spot to relax and soak in the local ambiance. Many visitors enjoy strolling along the river, crossing its quaint bridges, and admiring the architecture that has stood for centuries. The Grund truly embodies the 'hidden gem' aspect of Luxembourg. Reddit

Reaching The Grund is an experience in itself. You can descend via scenic walking paths or take the modern panoramic elevator, which offers spectacular views as you travel between the upper and lower parts of the city. Instagram This contrast between the historic and the modern is a recurring theme in Luxembourg City.
