What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Schiessentümpel a beautiful and photogenic spot, often described as a fairytale scene. The charming stone bridge and waterfall are highlights, making it a must-see in Luxembourg's 'Little Switzerland.' However, some find it smaller than expected and note that crowds and proximity to the road can detract from the experience.
"The waterfall is nice, but quite small. Since it’s right next to the road, many people stop just to see it, so it’s often crowded. Continue a few steps along Route 2 or 3 toward Berdorf or Beaufort—the landscapes there are beautiful as well."

"I Hiked 4 hours in the area to end at this waterfall.
-Its a small waterfall, but has its charm.
-It was a bit over crowded when i was there, people swiming in the pool so you couldnt get clear pictures free of people.
-There is a camp ground near by with people going to see waterfall too.
-The waterfall is right beside the road, you can see it from the road. The river goes along side the road. You cross a pedestrian bridge over the waterfall to get down to the pool below.
-Farther up the river i saw people going to the washroom in the river... with people swimming downstream.
Overall a bit underwhelming, but its a nice area and nice small waterfall."

"A charming spot and easy to access either by the main road or the wooden walkway parallel to the main road. I’d recommend taking the wooden walkway to the waterfall and return from the main road path for a different view.
We parked at the free parking - Schiessentumpel. It was easy to find and had lots of spots."

Exploring further along the Mullerthal Trail can lead to discoveries of hidden caves, impressive rock formations like the 'Hohllay' and 'Labyrinth,' and panoramic viewpoints that showcase the rolling hills and forests of eastern Luxembourg.
Navigating Access and Detours
It's important to be prepared for these detours and to wear appropriate footwear, such as comfortable walking shoes, as the alternative paths might be less maintained than the primary trail. The presence of a wooden walkway parallel to the main road also offers a safer and more scenic way to approach the waterfall, providing a different perspective than the main road itself.
Visitors are advised to stay informed about any temporary closures and to be flexible with their plans. While the detours might add a slight inconvenience, the beauty of Schiessentümpel and its surroundings are generally considered worth the effort.
Photography Tips for Schiessentümpel
For capturing the waterfall's movement, a tripod is highly recommended. Using a slightly longer exposure time (around 1/2 to 1 second) can create a beautiful 'silky' effect on the water. A polarizing filter can also be beneficial to cut down on reflections and enhance the vibrant greens of the surrounding foliage.
Experiment with different angles to find unique perspectives. While the view from the main path is classic, exploring the banks of the stream or the parallel wooden walkway can offer fresh compositions. Wide-angle lenses are excellent for encompassing the entire scene, while a telephoto lens can be used to focus on specific details of the waterfall or bridge.
