There's a magical transformation happening at Gurney Drive! While I've visited before for the famous hawker food, the newly opened first phase of Gurney Bay (the former Gurney Wharf project) offers a completely different, and absolutely wonderful, experience.
I recently enjoyed a leisurely walk along the expansive promenade and was immediately struck by the pleasant, refreshing sea air. The atmosphere is calm and invigorating, a lovely contrast to the usual city bustle. The new development is impressive, featuring well-lit walkways perfect for an evening stroll, a morning jog, or even cycling. The dedicated children's play area and skate park add a lively, family-friendly vibe.
The wonderful seaside walk provides stunning coastal vistas and is the ideal spot to catch a breathtaking sunrise or sunset over the water. There are plenty of places to sit and just soak in the peaceful surroundings. Though some trees are still young and offer limited shade during the hottest part of the day, the gentle sea breeze makes it very comfortable, especially in the mornings or evenings.
It's a beautiful blend of urban design and natural coastal charm, a true oasis in Penang. Once the entire project is completed, Gurney Bay will truly be a paradise. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking a serene, scenic spot to unwind and connect with nature."

"Been open for a while to the public though one section is still being prepared for access. Great place to walk in the cool morning and by late afternoon if the sun is forgiving. Visit all day with caps, umbrellas and your own water container (pls don’t bring plastic bottles and litter the surrounding and the sea 🙏)
