What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Prangin Mall is recognized as an 'OG' mall in Penang, offering a central location and accessible public transport. While it faces competition and has an older feel, it remains a popular spot for budget-friendly shopping, particularly for fashion and electronics, and offers a variety of affordable food options. Some visitors have reported negative experiences with aggressive sales tactics.
"Located in the heart of Georgetown, Penang, Prangin Mall enjoys direct connectivity with all over Penang as the main Bus Stop is located in the mall.
One can take the free-of-charge Rapid Penang CAT bus from anywhere within George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage Site to get to Prangin Mall.
As most Rapid Penang bus routes on Penang Island pass through the Komtar bus terminal, Prangin Mall can also be reached via any Rapid Penang bus heading to Komtar.
The mall was opened to the public in 2001 as Phase 3 of the Komtar project. The shopping mall faces competition from the newer 1st Avenue Mall, and today, Prangin Mall caters mainly to lower-income and middle-income earners. To add on, Parkson, its main anchor tenant, has closed its outlet within the mall. It has a total of six floors, including a sub-basement level
Consider as an OG (original) classic and the earliest mall in Penang, Prangin Mall is linked to 1st Avenue and Komtar via connecting bridges but certain link bridge has since been closed especially from Komtar side. The mall offers affordable fashion options and coworking space for freelancers and entrepreneurs alike. It also has a convention hall for events. The central location and public transportation accessibility make Prangin Mall a very convenient destination for exploring the vibrant streets of George Town. The mall has been declining eversince due to competition from the other surrounding mall and due to its old age and facilities, much of shoppers has since migrated to other High end and more nicer malls (1st Avenue). The mall will always remain the OG mall in the Penang scenery and has since carved a name for it.
The mall has its own multilevel and multistorey parking or you can choose to park at 1st Avenue and walk through the link. For tenant store wise, you can't expect much as it's an average normal mall but it's more in the focus affordable items especially for fashion and clothes, food and beverage and service. The mall most tenant is individual brand smartphone shop, smartphone repair and smartphone accessories shops. Theres no anchor tenant but theres a cinema located above the high floor. Overall, one could consider the environment inside to be 'an air conditioner coffee shop style environment'"
